KOTA KINABALU: Not all Sabah students at institutions of higher learning in peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak could be brought back in time for Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Kaamatan celebration this month.

State Education and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said that they were unable to bring them back in time for the celebrations due to technical matters and requirements to meet standard operating procedures.

“I am aware many parents and students are unhappy that they can’t come back in time. We have to consider public health safety and other considerations during this Covid-19 pandemic. I hope everyone will understand, ” he said. “They must observe home quarantine rules that include not mixing around with other family members, ” he added.

Some 2,000 students of the 6,744 have returned or were on their way back on chartered flights so far, he said.
