James Mangold's upcoming Dawn of the Jedi movie has a much more compelling premise than any Boba Fett story the director might have worked on.
James Mangold’s upcoming Dawn of the Jedi movie will do more for Star Wars’ storytelling than a Boba Fett solo film ever could. Recently, Star Wars has been expanding its narrative timeline. Where before, the few decades of the Skywalker saga were the core focus of Disney’s Star Wars canon, new projects and initiatives have drastically broadened the audience’s understanding of the galaxy.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi film slots perfectly into Star Wars’ new narrative direction. Going back even further than the High Republic Era, Mangold’s movie will take place at least 25,000 years before the Star Wars prequel trilogy. This is a huge timeline jump, as the film will look at the origins of the Force and the roots of the Jedi religion.
The Mandalorian-focused episodes were especially egregious in that regard. Two whole episodes were dedicated to Din Djarin and Grogu and used to set the table for their upcoming season, as opposed to driving Boba Fett’s story forward. While Djarin did end up playing a role in Boba Fett’s Mos Espa showdown, the damage had already been done. By slotting two The Mandalorian episodes into the middle of The Book of Boba Fett, the pacing was ruined, and the audience became divided once again.
Mangold's Dawn Of The Jedi Movie Is Even Better While it’s easy to argue that Mangold’s Boba Fett movie would have worked better than The Book of Boba Fett, his new Star Wars venture is even more compelling. One of Star Wars’ biggest faults has been its overreliance on nostalgia; this became especially apparent with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as Emperor Palpatine’s resurrection used fan service as a crutch.
