Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars movie will follow Rey building a New Jedi Order, and the perfect villains would be the Jedi themselves.
The villains of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars movie have not been revealed, but the perfect antagonists for Rey's New Jedi Order are the Jedi themselves. Having the Jedi be the villains of their own movie would be incredibly bold, and as strange as it may seem, there are several ways that it could happen. Star Wars has always been a story about corruption and redemption, from the fall and return of Anakin Skywalker to the final defeat of Palpatine and the Sith.
The Galaxy May Turn Against The New Jedi Order Rey's New Jedi Order may not become villains in a literal sense, but that would not stop the rest of the galaxy from seeing them as such. Emperor Palpatine turned the galaxy against the Jedi once before and may still do so even after he died in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The New Jedi Order May Adopt A New Philosophy The New Jedi Order may steer itself to the dark side by adopting a new philosophy on the Force. In Legends, a former Jedi and secret Sith called Vergere convinced Luke's New Jedi Order to embrace the Unifying Force, which was believed to only have a light and dark side in a metaphorical sense, not literal. This was similar to a heretical view called the Potentium, and Luke's New Jedi Order eventually rejected these theories.
The New Jedi Order May Be Undermined From Within Alternatively, the New Jedi Order may face conflict from within, perhaps without even realizing it. The comic series Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic by John Jackson Miller introduced the Jedi Covenant, a secret organization within the Jedi Order that sought to prevent the return of the Sith.
