The DA Speaker of the uMngeni Municipality, Janis Holmes, said she had already investigated the nepotism allegations against the mayor, Chris Pappas, and he was cleared.

Her investigation looked into the contentious agreement the municipality had with uMngeni Tourism, which was chaired by Pappas' then-fiancé, Jean-Pierre Prinsloo. When Pappas became the mayor, the municipality already had an agreement in place with uMngeni Tourism.
