Dramatic footage has revealed the moment a so-called “sovereign citizen” was dragged out of her car by police on the Gold Coast. 7NEWS
The video, which was shared to social media on January 21, shows the tense exchange between the woman and a number of officers. The police officer asks the woman for her full name, however, she refuses and asks the officer for his details. The officer then warns the woman she will be arrested if she does not co-operate.The officer asks the woman to listen to him, as she cuts him off and says: “You listen to me please.”“You’re being very aggressive,” she said.
The dramatic arrest comes less than a week after an officer ripped out the car window of another “sovereign citizen” when she refused to get out of her car. She was arrested and charged with several offences before being bailed, and is due to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Thursday.Southern Cross University Dean of Law David Heilpern explained sovereign citizens essentially claim they are “immune” from the law.
“I am guided by police commissioners who say these people are growing in numbers and are a real threat,” he said.
