Michael Cohen asked his attorneys last year to inquire with Donald Trump’s legal team about receiving a presidential pardon, Cohen’s current lawyer said today, in an apparent contradiction of Cohen's public testimony last week

Michael Cohen asked his attorneys last year to inquire with President Donald Trump’s legal team about receiving a presidential pardon, Cohen’s current lawyer said Thursday, in an apparent contradiction of the former Trump fixer’s public testimony last week.

Cohen worked for Trump for a decade and is set to begin a three-year prison sentence on May 6 for crimes including lying to Congress, tax fraud and campaign-finance violations. Cohen has said he committed those crimes out of loyalty to Trump. By signing up you agree to receive email newsletters or alerts from POLITICO. You can unsubscribe at any time.

“As I warned before Mr. Cohen’s appearance before the Oversight Committee, relying on an admitted liar to attack the President is beneath the dignity of the People’s House,” Jordan said in a statement.
