Sydney has taken out the top spot as Australia’s best winter travel destination! ✈️ 9News

Its own tourism appeal boasts "daily temperatures in the mid-20s, next to no rain, low humidity and nights that are warm enough to keep the windows wide open".

It came in as the fifth most popular destination, with two other Queensland locations rounding out the top five.Nestled on the banks of the longest river in South East Queensland, Brisbane is the fourth most popular winter travel search. The Queensland capital held on to the position from last year, topped again by it's popular neighbour. The Gold Coast, with its relaxed beaches and bars and restaurants, took out the number three spot.Melbourne has long rated itself as the food capital of Australia and if you're willing to brave the cold temperatures, there's plenty to do in the Victorian capital. But this year, another capital took the coveted top spot.

This year you can check out the Vivid light festival, which stretches into the month of June, do some whale watching as they migrate up the east coast or if you're brave head to Icebergs and join those who swim in the winter months.Getty Images/iStockphotoSydney Data from Booking.com revealed Sydney as the top destination this winter, up two places from last year, and taking over from Melbourne.
