Legendary entertainer Barry Humphries will be farewelled with a State Funeral in Sydney, after an offer from the Victorian government was declined by his family. 9News

Humphries poses for pictures after he received his Most Excellent Order of the British Empire from Britain's Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 2007.Humphries was born and raised in Melbourne but regularly travelled between Melbourne, Sydney and London for his work.His most famous character, Dame Edna Everage, was from the Melbourne suburb of Monee Ponds.

However, Humphries spent the final years of his life in Sydney and ultimately passed away at St Vincent's Hospital after undergoing surgery.
