Melaka police have cracked down on an international job scam operation, arresting nine individuals, including three Chinese nationals, linked to a call centre fraud scheme targeting victims in the Caribbean. The syndicate used fake job advertisements on Facebook to lure victims, instructing them to complete tasks on a specific website in exchange for commissions. However, victims were deceived and never received the promised payments.

Melaka police have apprehended nine individuals, including three Chinese nationals, suspected of operating an international employment scam syndicate. The arrests were made last Friday at a condominium unit in Taman Kota Laksamana by a team from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) of the Melaka contingent police headquarters (IPK). \The suspects, aged between 26 and 43, include three local men, three local women, and three Chinese nationals – two men and one woman.

The syndicate is believed to have targeted victims from a Caribbean nation. \Investigations revealed that the syndicate's modus operandi involved posting fake job advertisements on Facebook to lure victims. Interested individuals would then be contacted by syndicate members via WhatsApp or Telegram and instructed to complete 32 types of tasks on the website https://amcsthatres.com. These tasks purportedly aimed to increase the number of hotel and film reviews in the targeted country. After completing the first task, victims who wished to continue were instructed to make payment transactions to syndicate members. Promises of commissions ranging from US$70 (RM312) to US$100 for each completed task were made, but victims never received the promised earnings after making the payment. The syndicate is estimated to have generated approximately RM54,000 in monthly profits from this scheme.
