Police confiscated various items worth RM30,000, including 49 mobile phones, during the raid. All nine suspects have been remanded to assist in investigations.

Police in Melaka have uncovered an international job scam syndicate targeting victims from a Caribbean nation, leading to the arrest of nine individuals, including four women. State acting police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi revealed that a team from the Melaka Commercial Crime Investigation Department executed a raid on a condominium in Taman Kota Laksamana on February 7.

The suspects comprised six local citizens and three Chinese nationals, ranging in age from 26 to 43 years. According to SAC Md Nazri, the syndicate operated by advertising fictitious job opportunities on Facebook. Victims who responded to these advertisements were subsequently contacted by syndicate members through WhatsApp or Telegram. They were instructed to complete 32 tasks via a dedicated website, purportedly aimed at boosting reviews for hotels and movies within the Caribbean nation. After successfully completing an initial task, victims were encouraged to continue and required to make payment transactions to the syndicate. Each task promised commissions ranging from USD70 to USD100. However, upon making these payments, victims were not compensated as promised. SAC Nazri stated that the syndicate was estimated to have generated a monthly profit of RM54,000 from its fraudulent activities. During the raid, authorities confiscated various items valued at approximately RM30,000, including 49 mobile phones of various brands. SAC Md Nazri confirmed that all nine suspects have been remanded for four days until February 11 to assist in investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. This offense carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, whipping, and a fine upon conviction. He also issued a public warning, urging locals to exercise caution against such scams and to thoroughly verify the legitimacy of job offers before engaging with potential employers
