Nicknamed 'Speed Queen' or 'SQ' from her days on the underground street racing scene – before she was wise and sensible - MrsSpeedQueen is the first female editor of colour at a major motoring publication, and the first female editor at Wheels24.
I’m pretty proud of myself because I am the only woman of colour motoring editor in the country right now. I’m also the first female editor at Wheels24 in its 20-year existence.
"It’s tough, but you just have to keep your head up and remind yourself that you belong where you are," she says. When crafting her stories, Janine prefers a more conversational style to her writing over taking a technical tone. With nearly three years under her belt as an editor, she's found that journalists produce high-quality stories when they are writing what they are passionate about. That's why she gives her team free rein to pitch their own stories.
