Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili secara rasmi menyerahkan jawatan presiden kepada timbalannya Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam pada mesyuarat Majlis Tertinggi Parti Bersatu Sabah di ibu pejabatnya, di sini, Sabtu.
Dr Maximus, yang mengetuai PBS enam tahun lepas, menjadikan Dr Joachim sebagai pemangku presiden berkuat kuasa serta-merta.Dalam perutusan yang dibacakan oleh Setiausaha Agung parti Datuk Julita Majungki, Dr Maximus menyifatkan hari itu dipenuhi dengan perasaan bercampur baur, tetapi berkata pemindahan tugas itu perlu untuk kebaikan parti.
“Hari ini sudah tiba masanya perubahan yang saya yakin akan membawa pembaharuan iaitu penyerahan atau pemindahan tugas dan tanggungjawab sebagai presiden kepada pemangku lantikan yang saya pilih, mengikut peruntukan Perkara 15 Perlembagaan PBS, iaitu Timbalan Presiden kita Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

Dr Maximus, bagaimanapun, berkata dengan keadaan kesihatannya sekarang yang memerlukan lebih perhatian dan fokus kepada proses pemulihannya, beliau yakin pelantikan Dr Joachim adalah keputusan yang baik untuk PBS ketika ini.“Harapan saya, dengan pelantikan ini, kepimpinan parti kita terus bersatu untuk meneruskan perjuangan yang belum selesai untuk rakyat dan negeri Sabah,” katanya.
