A 10-bedroom home in Sydney’s northwest has been “completely destroyed” in a massive blaze, believed to have been started by a lightning strike.
Firefighters were called to the property on Cattai Ridge Rd in Glenorie, a rural suburb of Sydney, at about 9.30pm on Wednesday.
About 85 firefighters and 21 fire trucks fought for hours to bring the fire under control, with the house already well alight upon arrival.“The complexity was that the fire spread so quickly through such a large home which made access quite difficult,” a NSW Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
“Quite early on there was some structural collapse with the roof, meaning firefighters couldn’t access inside the structure itself.”The family told 9 News a lightning strike caused the fire. Picture: NSWRFS While the house, home to a family of seven, was “completely destroyed”, a shed on the property was protected from the blaze.‘Scary’ factory fire causes traffic chaosWhile NSWRFS is unable to confirm whether a lightning strike started the blaze, a spokesperson said investigations into the cause would begin today.
Locals and family members told 9News that they believed lightning hit the home after a storm rolled through, sparking the fire.

Indictments against Donald Trump are ‘completely backfiring’Sky News contributor Kosha says the charges against former president Donald Trump are “completely backfiring” against the Democrats politically. Mr Trump was found guilty of fraud in a civil case brought against his company, the Trump Organisation, by the state of New York. Judge Arthur Engoron found the former president had 'repeatedly' overstated his wealth and the value of his assets, including his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Manhattan's Trump Tower and a number of golf courses and other office buildings. Ms Gada warns people should not “make light” of the “legal peril” former president Donald Trump is in as he faces civil and criminal charges. “It’s dubious really, that’s what legal scholars are saying, most of the cases but there are some that may potentially have some legs and that is not to be discounted,” she told Sky News host Caleb Bond.
