The Malaysian Rural Development Authority (MARA) will provide support to borrowers and tenants affected by floods, including rescheduling loan payments. The government will also give a second chance to individuals who did not take the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) to continue their studies at TVET institutions.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, stated that the Ministry of Rural Development (KKDW) through its agency, the Malaysian Rural Development Authority ( MARA ), will provide support to borrowers and tenants affected by the floods, including rescheduling loan payments. However, as of now, MARA has not received any applications from flood victims to reschedule their loan payments.
Ahmad Zahid said that if there are any applications, MARA management will review them and discuss with the applicants to reschedule the payments. He said this to reporters after officially opening the Kuali Cafe@UKM at the Pusanika Building of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) today. For tenants of MARA premises, he said the agency will also assess each case individually to ensure they do not bear losses due to the disaster. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Chairman of the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Committee, said the government will give a second chance to individuals who did not take the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) to continue their studies at TVET institutions. He said they will work with the National TVET Council and the Ministry of Education to identify these individuals to pursue courses of their interest through TVET. In 2023, there were more than 10,160 individuals who did not take the SPM, and a similar number is expected in 2024
