Mara pledges support for borrowers and tenants impacted by floods, including rescheduling loan payments and individual tenant assessments. Government to offer second chance for SPM non-takers to pursue TVET courses.

The Malaysian government, through the Majlis Amanah Rakyat ( Mara ), has pledged support for borrowers and tenants affected by the recent floods. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that this support includes rescheduling loan payments and assistance to tenants of premises. However, he clarified that Mara has not received any applications from individuals seeking loan payment deferment as of yet.

While there are no recorded requests from Mara borrowers affected by the floods, Ahmad Zahid assured that Mara will review and discuss adjustments to payments if such applications are received. He added that Mara will assess cases of tenants affected by the floods individually to ensure they do not bear losses due to the unforeseen event. In other news, the government will offer a second chance for individuals who did not sit for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) to pursue studies at TVET institutions. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Chairman of the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Committee, stated that the government will work with the TVET Council and the Ministry of Education to identify over 10,160 individuals who did not take the SPM in 2023 and an anticipated similar number in 2024. These individuals can apply for suitable TVET courses through the UP_TVET platform
