The city government of Manila will implement the “Oplan: Libreng Sakay” or free rides in response to the incoming transportation strike starting Monday, March 6.
“Napagkasunduan natin na tayo po ay magbibigay ng libreng sakay sa isang buong linggo po sa susunod ng linggo ,” Manila Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan announced on Friday, March 3.
Lacuna has instructed the Manila Police District , Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau , and Manila Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office to deploy vehicles that will provide free rides to passengers. She said the MTPB will lend 10 of its buses for the free service program. MDRRMO will also provide two transporters and three pickup vehicles.The free rides will pass through different routes including Vito Cruz Taft Avenue to Quezon Boulevard; Espana Boulevard to Welcome Rotonda; Abad Santos Avenue to R. Papa Rizal Avenue; UN Taft Avenue to R. Papa Rizal Avenue; Recto Ave to SM Sta Mesa; and UN Taft Ave to P. Ocampo St.
Lacuna said she will also deploy electronic tricycles for free transportation along secondary roads in the city.
