KOTA KINABALU: A man who is believed to have been trying to locate his family during a fire in Kg Puyut Lahad Datu has been found dead on Monday (Nov 14).
The 66-year-old was said to have been going in and out of his home at a water village here as he wanted to make sure that everyone made it out safely.
However, when the fire subsided and rescuers were at the scene checking for victims, they were informed that a man remained missing. “Our personnel were putting out the fire and when daylight broke, the victims told us that one person has not been found,” said Lahad Datu Fire Station chief Sumsoa Rashid, when contacted.
He said they started searching for the victim based on information of where he was last seen and found his charred remains below the destroyed house.Earlier, Sumsoa said they received a distress call at around 4.34am and a team was dispatched to respond.“The charred remains of the victim were handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
