Many Malaysians still do not know the symptoms of asthma or how to control it.
She said there was still a stigma against those suffering from asthma, with some teachers even sending children having asthma attacks to use their inhalers under the staircase.Dr Khoo said preliminary findings of the study showed that about 6% to 7% of adults and 8.9% to 13% of children suffered from the condition.
RESPIRE is a global health research unit led by the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with Malaysia , Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. It is funded by the United Kingdom government through the National Institute for Health Research.
