Starting January 2023, Malaysian travelers will need to download the MyBorderPass app and use a QR code system for immigration clearance at KLIA.

Starting this year, Malaysia n travelers are required to download the MyBorderPass application to register their travel information before using the fast response code (QR) system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport ( KLIA ). According to a Berita Harian report, the Immigration Department said that after downloading the application, travelers need to verify their face for authentication before starting their journey or upon arrival.

\'It's a new experience for all Malaysian citizens starting January this year. The Home Ministry (KDN) has launched an immigration clearance system using QR codes at KLIA specifically for Malaysian citizens,' it said. \On Wednesday, Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the government is implementing a trial period for the use of QR codes specifically for Malaysian citizens starting this month to launch a dedicated immigration clearance system in 40 designated lanes at KLIA Terminal 1 (T1) and KLIA T2. \Among the advantages of using QR codes is that the immigration clearance process takes only a short time, between five and seven seconds, compared to 15 to 25 seconds using conventional automatic doors. \It is understood that the use of QR codes at the arrival and departure halls of KLIA T1 and KLIA T2 is a solution to the congestion problems often encountered at national entry points, especially during peak hours and holidays. \The Immigration Department reportedly assured that the implementation of the updated automatic gate facilities or autogate using QR code system at KLIA will not affect security, particularly regarding the release of foreign nationals entering the country
