The Malaysian government is launching a pilot program using QR codes for Malaysian citizens at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2 to expedite immigration processes and alleviate congestion.
The government will implement a trial of QR code lanes for Malaysia ns at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2 starting this month. This initiative aims to address congestion issues at the country's entry points, particularly during peak periods and festive seasons. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the QR code system will significantly reduce immigration check times, taking only 5 to 7 seconds compared to 15 to 25 seconds using conventional automatic gates.
It will also enhance security and service efficiency by leveraging the latest technology. Travelers will not need to present their passports during immigration checks but must carry them throughout their journey. Manual counters and existing automatic gates will remain operational alongside the QR code system.
