A 25-year-old Malaysian mother was sentenced to three years in prison for the death of her six-year-old son. The mother pleaded guilty to charges of exposing her son to physical injury, leading to his death.
A mother in Malaysia was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to killing her six-year-old son two weeks ago. Sessions Court Judge Norshila Kamarudin ordered the 25-year-old defendant to begin her sentence immediately. She was also given a good behavior bond for two years and prohibited from caring for or raising any other children for five years after completing her prison term.
The defendant was charged with exposing her son to a manner likely to cause physical injury, specifically through hitting, pinching, and slapping, leading to the child's death. The incident occurred at a residence in Taman Bukit Ampang between 2 p.m. on January 8th and 6 p.m. the following day. The charge was brought under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000, a maximum prison sentence of 20 years, or both. According to the facts of the case, on January 10th, police were called to the scene after receiving a call at 2:36 p.m. reporting that the victim was unresponsive. The mother stated that the victim had a fever and was having seizures. However, a post-mortem examination conducted on January 11th confirmed that the cause of death was blunt trauma to the head and abdomen. Police investigations revealed that the victim was beaten, slapped, pinched, and scolded by his mother due to his constant crying, irregular bowel movements, and lack of urination. He was also reportedly not taken to the hospital despite having a fever. Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Hairuliqram Hairuddin handled the prosecution, while lawyer Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan represented the woman, who has another six-month-old child. Meanwhile, at the Magistrate's Court, the woman's boyfriend, Muhammad Redza Zainurin, 36, was charged with murdering the same victim at the same location on January 10th at 2:36 p.m. The charge was brought under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. He acknowledged understanding the charges after they were read to him by Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top, who set March 24th for the next mention of the case
