The Malaysian King (Yang di-Pertuan Agong) has the prerogative power to grant pardons, suspend sentences, and commute punishments for offenses committed in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, as stipulated in Article 42 (1) and (2) of the Federal Constitution. The King exercises this power on the advice of the Pardons Board, which he chairs. Anyone wishing to suggest a pardon or sentence reduction for a prisoner must submit a request through the prisoner.
