Malaysian Minister of Agriculture and Food Security , Mohamad Sabu , proposed to rename Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to its original name, Universiti Pertanian Malaysia, after considering the importance of food security and agricultural development. However, the proposal faced strong public reactions on social media, largely opposing it. Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Sultan of Selangor, expressed disagreement with the suggestion.

Consequently, Sabu decided to respect the Sultan's decision and agreed to keep UPM's current name
