Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Muar MP, failed in his High Court bid to challenge the Malaysian government's decision to withdraw allocated funds intended for his constituency. The court ruled the application out of time and lacking jurisdiction.
The High Court in Malaysia dismissed an application by Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to challenge the government's decision to withdraw allocated funds intended for his constituency. Judge Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh ruled that the application was filed out of time and that the court lacked jurisdiction to determine the matter. He stated that allocation of funds is an executive function and not within the court's purview.
The judge also noted that there are no constitutional provisions obligating government agencies to allocate funds to MPs based on their political support. The application for leave was denied, with no order for costs. Syed Saddiq expressed his intention to appeal the verdict at the Court of Appeal. Syed Saddiq and three Muar voters filed the application last April 23, seeking to quash the government's decision to withhold RM500,000 from a total of RM1.7 million intended for the Muar Parliamentary Service Centre. They also requested the reinstatement of Syed Saddiq's access to the myKHAS system, which manages the constituency's RM2 million development fund, and the reversal of the cancellation of several projects worth RM230,300 approved through the system
