Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's application for leave to challenge the Malaysian government's decision to halt funding for public welfare programs in the Muar constituency was rejected by the Kuala Lumpur High Court. The court ruled that the application was filed outside the allowed timeframe.
The High Court in Kuala Lumpur today dismissed Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's application for leave to challenge the government's action regarding the allocation of funds in the Muar constituency. High Court Judge, Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh (now Court of Appeal Judge) ruled that the application was filed outside the stipulated time frame. 'It is settled law that any application filed outside the stipulated time frame is a frivolous and vexatious act.
'If I am mistaken about the time frame, the issue relating to allocation is connected to government policy which cannot be challenged through judicial review,' he said. On April 23, Syed Saddiq and three voters in the Muar constituency, namely Najib Abu Nawar, Mohd. Bakirudin Abdullah and Muhamad Fadzly Bisri as applicants, filed the application, naming the Malaysian Prime Minister and the Malaysian Government as the first and second respondents. In the application for leave, Syed Saddiq claimed that the government had stopped the allocation of RM730,300 for the expenditure of public welfare in the Muar constituency. Consequently, they requested an order to quash the decision to stop or to cancel the remaining RM500,000 from the total of RM1.7 million, which was supposed to be channelled directly to the bank account of the Muar Parliamentary People's Service Centre for the purpose of spending on welfare programs, public well-being and disaster relief in the Muar constituency
