The investigation gained momentum following the recent arrest of eight individuals from the financial consultancy firm and 18 bank officers in a sweeping operation codenamed Ops Sky. The source revealed that the celebrities were allegedly paid substantial sums, reaching up to RM400,000, to leverage their fame and influence to promote the services of the consultancy firm.Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the celebrities under scrutiny would be summoned to provide statements related to the ongoing investigation. He stated that the probe focuses specifically on their acceptance of payments ranging into the hundreds of thousands of ringgit after being appointed as campaign ambassadors for the financial consultancy firm. While no individuals have been formally called in yet, Azam Baki anticipates that several will be summoned to assist in the investigation.The MACC's recent crackdown on corruption and money laundering activities, driven by Ops Sky, resulted in a series of raids at 24 locations across the Klang Valley, encompassing both residences and offices. These raids led to the detention of 27 individuals, including 18 bank officers, eight staff members from the financial consultancy firm, and a single other individual. All detainees have since been released on MACC bail. Authorities have also seized approximately 4,000 documents and frozen 98 bank accounts with a combined value of RM17,403,644.
