Malaysians can now apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to travel to the UK for tourism, visiting family and friends, business, or short-term study.

Starting today, 8 January, travellers from 48 countries, including Malaysia , can apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK. According to the UK government, an ETA allows travellers to visit the UK for up to six months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business, or short-term study, without requiring a visa.

Last year, the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur said using ETAs would help provide a more streamlined, digital immigration system, allowing people to pass through the UK border more quickly and securely. The ETA is valid for two years and allows multiple entries, digitally linked to a traveller's passport. If the holder gets a new passport, they'll need to obtain a new ETA. Applications cost 10 pounds (about RM60) and must be completed online or via the official government UK ETA app on the Apple Store or Google Play. To apply, all you need is your passport, an email account, and a credit or debit card for payment. The application should take only 10 minutes to complete, and you do not need to enter your travel details. Here's how to apply via the UK ETA app: - Take a photo of your passport. - Scan the chip in your passport. - Scan your face. - Take a photo of yourself. - Answer some questions about yourself. - Pay for your application. If you are applying for someone else, they must be with you
