The Malaysian government is reviewing the need for more border officers to monitor 141 entry points from next year, particularly due to Indonesia's planned capital relocation.
KUALA LUMPUR: The government is reviewing the need to create additional positions for officers in the single border agency to monitor 141 of the country's entry points from next year, says Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
The Deputy Home Minister told the Dewan Rakyat that discussions are ongoing with stakeholders, including the Public Service Department.He added that the consideration for more officers was being made as Indonesia will be moving its capital from Jakarta to Nusantara, Kalimantan. “The Home Ministry is aware that there is a need to increase the number of officers seeing such a development.
"The Immigration Department is conducting a study to see if it is necessary to increase manpower at the entry points,” he said on Monday .Roy Angau Gingkoi wanted to know if the ministry planned to increase the number of Immigration officers and police at Lubok Antu, Sarawak which will be the border entry point for Malaysia and Indonesia.
Shamsul said 62,159 people were recorded entering and exiting the country through this point from January up to Nov 15.
