Starting in 2024, individual taxpayers in Malaysia must file their income tax returns electronically (e-filing), marking a shift away from manual submissions. The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB) outlines the new requirements and encourages employers to submit employee data electronically.
Individual taxpayers in Malaysia will be required to submit their income tax returns electronically (e-filing) starting from the assessment year 2024. This applies to all taxpayer categories, including partnerships, Hindu joint families, associations, and deceased persons' estates. The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia ( IRB ) will no longer accept manual submissions or paper forms.
Employers are encouraged to submit employee remuneration and deduction details electronically via e-CP8D by February 25, 2025. The IRB will use this information to pre-fill employees' e-Forms for the assessment year 2024. Employees can review and amend the pre-filled data before signing and submitting their e-Forms. The Tax Return Filing Programme for 2025 is available on the IRB's official portal as a guide for taxpayers. Starting from the assessment year 2025, companies and limited liability partnerships (LLPs) who have submitted their tax returns will also need to provide additional information and documents specified by the IRB Director General within 30 days after the tax return deadline
