Malaysia is predicted to face a period of hot and dry weather from February to May, with the northern peninsula, Perak, Pahang, and Kelantan expected to be particularly affected. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) attributes this to the waning of the Northeast Monsoon, which is expected to end by mid-March, leading to reduced rainfall and cloud cover. While heatwaves and localized haze are possible, MetMalaysia anticipates a less severe impact compared to last year due to the influence of a weak La Niña phenomenon.

Malaysia is bracing for a period of hot and dry weather , spanning from February to May, which is anticipated to particularly impact areas in the northern peninsula, Perak, Pahang, and Kelantan. The Malaysia n Meteorological Department (Met Malaysia ) director-general, Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, explained that the country is currently in the final stage of the Northeast Monsoon , expected to conclude by mid-March. This transition will lead to reduced cloud cover and diminished rainfall.

Mohd Hisham cautioned that the prolonged absence of rain could result in hotter and drier conditions than usual, a recurring weather pattern observed annually between February and May. He further stated that during this period, maximum temperatures could soar above 35 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon. On February 11th, the highest temperature recorded at MetMalaysia's weather stations nationwide was 36.1 degrees Celsius in Felda Teloi Kanan, Baling, Kedah. While heatwaves and localized haze are possible during this period, their severity is projected to be less intense than last year due to the influence of a weak La Niña phenomenon, which is anticipated to persist until mid-year. MetMalaysia has issued advisories to the public, urging water conservation, discouraging open burning, and recommending limiting outdoor activities during this hot and dry spell. In its significant weather forecast issued at 12:30 pm, MetMalaysia predicted prolonged thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds in Sarawak for three consecutive days, starting from February 17th. According to weather model analysis, wind concentration is expected in Sarawak from February 17th to 19th, increasing the likelihood of these prolonged thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong winds. This prediction comes amidst the overall forecast of hot and dry weather across most of Malaysia
