Malaysia maintains its position in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2024, achieving a score of 50 and ranking 57th out of 180 countries. While this signifies a stable performance, concerns remain regarding the slow pace of reform and persistent issues of corruption within the public sector.

Malaysia's score in the Corruption Perceptions Index ( CPI ) 2024 remains at 50 points, the same as in 2023, placing it at rank 57 out of 180 countries worldwide. Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) President, Dr. Muhammad Mohan, stated that the CPI 2024 was derived from nine different surveys based on assessments by business and country experts measuring perceptions of corruption in the public sector.

According to him, although Malaysia maintains its position and achieves the same score, the government should recognize that the country has a vision to reach among the top 25 countries globally by 2033. He added that various factors contribute to Malaysia's improved score, including the government emphasizing the importance of good governance and institutional reforms. However, these reform efforts are still progressing slowly. Dr. Muhammad Mohan highlighted several concerns: the review of prison sentences and reductions in fines after high-profile cases were decided by the highest court, raising perceptions of political interference in the judiciary; the high number of DNAA (Discharge Not Amounting to Acquittal) granted for high-profile cases, also creating a perception of political interference in the judiciary or the prosecution process; and the persistent cases of abuse of power and corruption by public servants despite arrests by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM). He also cited the continuous poor reports in the Auditor-General's reports regarding weaknesses in management and financial misconduct by government officials who are not given adequate penalties. The report revealed that three 'corruption-free' nations occupy the top three spots: Denmark, Finland, and Singapore, with scores of 90, 88, and 84 points respectively. The countries placed at the bottom of the index are Venezuela, South Sudan, and Somalia, with scores of 10, 9, and 8 points respectively. Malaysia ranks second among nine ASEAN countries, trailing behind Singapore, which scored 84 points
