Malaysia is making strides in expanding its public EV charging network, with DC charger deployments projected to reach 1,500 units by mid-2025, six months ahead of schedule. While AC charger deployment is progressing at a slower pace, the country is aiming for 8,500 AC chargers by Q3 2026.
As of November 2024, Malaysia boasts 3,354 public EV chargers, comprising 956 DC and 2,398 AC chargers. The Malaysia Zero Emission Vehicle Association (MyZEVA) anticipates reaching the target of 1,500 DC chargers by mid-2025, six months ahead of schedule. However, the target of 8,500 AC chargers is projected to be achieved only by the third quarter of 2026 due to challenges in deployment.
MyZEVA estimates that by 2030, 717,000 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) will be on Malaysian roads, necessitating a substantial expansion of the charging network
