The Malaysian government is exploring the possibility of requiring drug urine tests for attendees at concerts in Selangor to address concerns about drug use. The proposal is in its early stages and will be discussed at the state level.
The Malaysia n government is considering a proposal to mandate drug urine tests for concert-goers in Selangor . Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that the proposal is in its preliminary stages and requires thorough discussion at the state level. He emphasized the need to address legal compliance and collaborate with the police to ensure event safety while balancing organizer responsibilities.
The proposal was spurred by Selangor's recommendation to implement urine tests as a standard operating procedure for concert attendees, aiming to curb drug use. This development follows the police's temporary suspension of concert permits in Selangor following the deaths of four individuals at the Pinkfish Concert in Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya. Minister Fahmi has requested the Arts, Live Festivals, and Events Association (Alife) to submit a formal proposal to both his office and the Selangor Mentri Besar's office.
