Malaysia's government is boosting its public transport system by introducing 300 new vans for Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) services. The vans aim to address the 'first and last mile' problem faced by commuters, providing convenient transportation to and from train stations. The new vans, operated by Prasarana, will begin operating in stages between February and June, with fares set at a low RM1 per trip.

They help solve the first and last mile issue faced by commuters, which is how to get to and from the train station. It works, and now Prasarana is introducing 300 more vans for DRT purposes.

According to transport minister Anthony Loke, it’s an effort to ensure that commuters do not need to take too long to reach the train stations, and also part of efforts to boost the usage of public transport. He said that the new vans will start operating in stages between February and June. “Twenty vans were used since last year and it’s popular. Many like it because we charge just RM1 one way. So from March, 300 new vans will start operating, progressively we will get new vans,” Loke said in a press conference today.

Prasarana president Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said that the company, which operates Rapid public transport, is planning to introduce DRT services in new areas along the Putrajaya, Kajang and Ampang train lines, as well as in areas currently without rail or Rapid Bus services.Danny Tan loves driving as much as he loves a certain herbal meat soup, and sweet engine music as much as drum beats.
