The national team’s victory started with Orleans Masters champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei collecting the first point for Malaysia when they recovered from a first game loss to edge Ye Hong Wei and Lee Chia Hsin 17-21, 21-19, 21-17 in the opening match. However, Tai Tzu Ying, ranked third in the world and a silver medallist at the Tokyo Olympic Games, snatched a point for Taiwan when she easily defeated national women’s singles Goh Jin Wei 21-8, 21-10 in just 28 minutes.
World No 8 women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M Thinaah then fought hard to complete Malaysia’s victory by overcoming Hsu Ya Ching and Teng Chun Hsun 21-15, 19-21, 21-15 in one hour and 11 minutes.
