Patients diagnosed with cancers that are difficult to treat will have an opportunity to take part in an exciting clinical trial of a new screening program that could allow for better treatment in the future.
The state government announced a $25 million boost will allow more NSW patients to take part in the Precision Oncology Screening Platform enabled Clinical Trial .
NSW Health Minister Ryan Park said the funding boost which will help those living with cancers such as ovarian, pancreatic and metastatic an opportunity to access clinical trials. “While 1 in 2 people in NSW will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, every cancer is unique, and precision genomics gives clinicians the ability to match treatments more effectively to the needs of individual patients – this research project promises real progress in how we treat cancers.
“This program will open new and personalised treatment paths for Australians with difficult to treat cancers and allow NSW to tap into the global cancer research market,” NSW Health Deputy Secretary Clinical Innovation and Research Dr Jean-Frederic Levesque said.
