Wollongong actor and reality television star Michael Theo has landed his first major production, playing a character inspired by him in a new comedy drama called Austin.

Michael Theo says he has realised a childhood dream by landing his first professional acting job in a new comedy television drama.plays the title role of Austin , a forklift driver from Canberra with autism who is on a quest to find out who his father is.
"If you're getting an actor not on the spectrum to play an autistic character, it's not organic or authentic."Part of the show included acting alongside Australian screen legend Roy Billing, Sally Phillips — of Bridget Jones trilogy fame — and BAFTA winner Ben Miller. "People have a misconception that acting is all fun and games, but it's not — you have to learn scripts and drill the lines to make your performance more authentic."Theo said he helped inspire the character of Austin, and his mother inspired the character's mother, who is played in the show by Gia Carides."I'm used to myself saying lines like that because I also don't have a filter, like Austin doesn't," Theo said.
"There are some actors who play deadpan characters on my favourite shows and they crack me up every time."Since gaining national attention through Love on the Spectrum, Theo has been running his own interview podcast called Mr A+."As much as I wanted to do both it wasn't possible, but it's now on the backburner because I could be too busy to do podcasts," Theo said.
