Former PlayStation president Shuhei Yoshida recounts playing a never-before-seen space shooter game developed for the failed Nintendo PlayStation console on his first day at Sony.

Shuhei Yoshida , the former president of Sony Interactive Studios, has a fascinating story from his first day at PlayStation. In a recent interview with MinnMax, Yoshida, who departed the company last month after 31 years, recounted how Ken Kutaragi , known as the 'Father of the PlayStation,' introduced him to the team's first game. However, this wasn't a title for the iconic PlayStation console of the 90s.

Instead, it was developed for the ill-fated Nintendo PlayStation, a proposed device that aimed to allow the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) to play CD games. Yoshida explained, 'The first thing they showed us was that Nintendo Sony PlayStation, like a prototype. And also they had almost finished a game on it and I got to play the game on the system the day I joined.' Unfortunately, Yoshida doesn't recall the game's developers, suggesting it might have been a team based in either the U.S. or Japan. He described the game as a 2.5D or 3D space shooter, leveraging the CD's power to stream assets and create a visual experience reminiscent of the Sega CD title Silpheed. \ When asked if this never-before-seen Nintendo PlayStation space shooter might still exist within Sony's vast archives, Yoshida expressed confidence that it could. 'I wouldn't be surprised if,' he said, 'You know it was like CD so yeah.' This raises the tantalizing possibility that Sony's archives hold a treasure trove of forgotten gaming history, waiting to be rediscovered. Perhaps a dedicated archival team could unearth this lost gem and share it with the world, allowing gamers to experience a glimpse of what could have been. Or maybe, just maybe, it will be one of the secrets hidden within the next Astro Bot game, a playful nod to the past within a vibrant future of gaming
