A lorry driver pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court here today to a charge of dangerous driving causing the death of two teenagers last year. S. Vinudharan, 26, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Magistrate Nor Syaliati Mohd Sobri. According to the charge sheet, he was charged with dangerous driving causing an accident and the death of Erwan Idris and Putra Norsyaqir Putrawirawan, both aged 16, on Jalan Krubong Permai, Melaka Tengah at 9.53 pm on December 24, 2023.
Vinudharan was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a sentence of not less than five years and a maximum of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of not less than RM20,000 and not more than RM50,000 if found guilty, in addition to being disqualified from holding a driving licence for a period of five years from the date of the conviction.
