PONTIAN: Locals in Tanjung Piai are disputing allegations made by Pakatan Harapan’s leaders that its former two-term MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng had a lacklustre track record.
Faye Maya, 35, said that single mothers like her would usually get welfare aids initiated by Wee and his team.
Ng Tai Long 48, who operates a stall selling coconut pudding in Kukup, also described Wee as caring and sincere. A hotel janitor, who wanted to be known only as Umi, said she was grateful because Wee’s welfare programmes helped alleviate her burden when her husband died several years back. Wee said that Liew, as part the Pakatan ruling coalition, should instead focus on creating holistic policies on developing Tanjung Piai and how to improve the livelihood of the locals.
