KOTA KINABALU: A man who selflessly jumped into the sea to save a stranger who was struggling in strong currents ended up drowning on Sunday (Nov 10) evening.
Abdul Salih Hamza, 47, was having a picnic with his family at the Kelambu beach in Sabah's northern Kudat district, when he saw the victim struggling and dove into the sea to help him.
It is unclear what led to his death or if he managed to reach the victim, who managed to grab on to an object before he was rescued. Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Khatizah Rahaban said they sent a rescue team to the site after receiving a distress call at about 5.29pm."His body was found some 100m from where he was last seen," she said, adding rescuers tried to perform CPR on him but failed.Khatizah said both victims were taken to the Kudat Hospital, where Abdul Salih was pronounced dead.
