As Texas communities become more diverse, the need for more representative local governments and school boards becomes more acute. There is an urgent need to replace antiquated and discriminatory at-large electoral systems. We should remember the words of Congressman John Lewis, who called voting the most powerful non-violent tool we have in a democracy.Congratulations to the Supreme Court for moving Alabama past Reconstruction. Move over Jim Crow.

What our former president did was illegal and dangerous to the security of our country, and he must be punished, as others have been, for these actions.State legislatures are introducing bills to tackle a little-known fee that merchants incur every time a credit card is swiped. Swipe fees have been steadily increasing and placing a significant financial strain on both merchants and American families. Rep.

The CCCA offers a promising solution that introduces competition into the payments industry, benefiting both merchants and consumers. By granting merchants a second routing option, this legislation would compel credit card companies to compete based on cost and quality of service. Increased competition would foster innovation and drive down swipe fees, ultimately alleviating the financial burden on American families.

Christina Belcher’s story brings another point to mind that I very often see in stories like this. It goes — a young mother caring for her children trying to provide some kind of home with no mention of a husband or father, other than, as in this case, they are separated. Why isn’t the father more involved?
