Lepasa, Mofokeng & Co, How Pirates Produce Stars

For almost two decades, Mandla Qhogi has been working as a development coach for Pirates where talented players have been produced over the years such as Zakhele Lepasa, Relebohile Mofokeng who are currently with the first team, as well as Lyle Foster among others, and is being lauded for his eye for talent.Qhogi, who recently parted ways with the Buccaneers, has spoken on the working relationship between coaches at Bucs from the senior team and development respectively.

The first team head coach, or sometimes it might not be him but an assistant coach, will come and watch the development team’s training sessions from time to time. They also come to sit down with the development coaches to discuss about the players, individually. They would ask which players do the coaches think are ready to come and train with the first team and we would put the names forward,” said Qhogi.
