Pada 27 April 1973, akhbar Utusan Malaysia melaporkan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur akan dijadikan Kawasan Persekutuan setelah rang undang-undang pindaan perlembagaan mengenainya diluluskan oleh Dewan Rakyat.
