A kindergarten assistant in Seremban, Malaysia, was charged with two counts of cheating two individuals out of RM1.64 million in a non-existent investment scheme.
A kindergarten assistant was charged at the Seremban Magistrate's Court today on two counts of cheating two individuals concerning non-existent investments involving a total loss of RM1.64 million. The accused, Rozma Yunus, 55, however pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out separately before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli and Syed Farid Syed Ali.
According to the charges, the accused, together with another who is still at large, was found to have cheated a 56-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman by deceiving them into investing in a non-existent investment. The accused had cunningly persuaded the victims to transfer an amount of RM1,545,824 and RM97,800 online into the accused's bank account, which the victims would not have transferred if they had not been deceived in this manner. The offence was committed by the accused between July 12, 2017 and September 1, 2022 in Kampung Tok Dagang and Taman Panchor Jaya, Paroi here. Consequently, the accused has committed an offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which is punishable by imprisonment of not less than one year and a maximum of 10 years with caning and a fine, if convicted. The prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Nur Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi and Nadia Ezzati Mohd. Zainal. Earlier, Nadia Ezzati offered bail of RM20,000 with one surety against the accused. The court then allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM12,000 for both charges. The case is set for mention again on February 4 next. – UTUSA
