Kellie Harrington and Michaela Walsh both won their fights at the IABA National Elite Boxing Championships to win a record 11th Irish title.
The previous record, 10 titles, was held by Kenneth Egan and Jim O'Sullivan but wins for Dublin native Harrington and Belfast’s Walsh saw them move onto 11 each.Olympic gold medallist Harrington defeated Zara Breslin from Tramore in the 60kg fight with a 5-0 win. However, her record didn’t last long as only hours later Walsh saw off Kellie McLoughlin from St Catherine's in their featherweight bout to bring both fighters up to a record 11 titles.
The tournament, in Dublin, was moved ahead of schedule with Olympic Qualifiers beginning at the start of 2023 as Ireland looks to add to their roster of five selected fighters. Harrington and Walsh have already been chosen alongside Jack Marley, Aoife O'Rourke and Sean McDermott.
