PETALING JAYA: The newly-formed Perikatan Nasional coalition government should respect the power of the judiciary and allow the trials of Umno leaders to proceed undisturbed, says Bersatu supreme council member Datuk A. Kadir Jasin.

He hoped talk that cases of Umno leaders would be dropped under the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would remain mere speculation."I hope he would not betray the people who voted for him in the 2018 general election under the Pakatan Harapan banner, because they abhorred the robbing kleptocratic Barisan Nasional leaders," the veteran newsman said in a Facebook post Monday .

Kadir said that Malaysians would be more assured if Muhyiddin unequivocally echoed the sentiment of Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who was quoted as saying"not to disturb the trials of VIPs in court." Urging all parties to respect the concept of separation of powers between the executive, legislature and judiciary, he said no one should try to mix the legal system with political interests.
