Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke announces plans to equip Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers with body cameras to increase transparency and improve enforcement effectiveness.
The Malaysian Ministry of Transport plans to introduce body cameras for members of the Road Transport Department ( JPJ ) to enhance transparency in enforcement. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced this initiative during a press conference after the 2025 Ministry of Transport New Year address. He stated that equipping JPJ officers with body cameras , particularly for heavy vehicle inspections, will improve enforcement effectiveness.
Loke explained that JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli previously requested the implementation of body cameras to ensure the image, safety, and integrity of all officers on duty. The minister emphasized that the cameras will not only protect JPJ's image and integrity but also safeguard officers from verbal abuse, insults, and false accusations. Deputy Director-General (Planning and Operations) Datuk Jazmanie Shafawi previously highlighted the necessity for body cameras to enhance integrity among officers and the public, preventing misunderstandings during enforcement. Loke stated that he has instructed the Ministry of Transport management to negotiate with the Ministry of Finance for the procurement of body cameras, aiming to equip all JPJ officers with them this year
