MELAKA: The jostling for the chief minister post is in full swing between Umno and defectors from the state Pakatan Harapan, signalling that a new state government will not be formed anytime soon.
Umno is believed to be seeking an experienced candidate who can bring prompt changes within a short period.
A political insider said Umno was anticipating that the new government would only last over a year as a general election could be called then.Melaka Pakatan Harapan holds 13 state seats. Barisan Nasional, similarly, has 13 seats.A Pakatan Harapan lawmaker, who requested anonymity, claimed that one “defector” from their side has not officially exited from the coalition.
Last Tuesday, Adly Zahari posted a message on his official Twitter account as chief minister and Melaka Pakatan Harapan chairman which appeared to be a resignation.
