Johor aims to have over 15,000 electric vehicles (EVs) on its roads by 2030, as part of a larger push towards sustainable transportation . State Health and Environment Committee Chairman Ling Tian Soon revealed this target, outlining policies introduced by the Johor Green Committee to promote the use of renewable technology and environmental sustainability. To reach this ambitious goal, the state government plans to expand its network of EV charging stations.
Currently, there are 377 charging stations statewide, but the target is to have 1,245 by 2030. Ling highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that it would not only benefit local residents but also cater to Singaporean visitors, as only cleaner-energy vehicle models will be allowed for registration in Singapore starting in 2030. He emphasized that the committee is committed to streamlining the approval process for EV charging stations. Local councils will be required to make a decision within seven working days on any application received. Each council will also be given a specific target to achieve in terms of installing charging stations. This move aims to create a more conducive environment for EV adoption and encourage the shift towards cleaner transportation.Beyond promoting EVs, the Johor Green Committee has introduced other critical policies aimed at achieving a sustainable future. These include a renewable energy policy targeting 600 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030, up from the current 199MW. This policy will encourage both local and foreign investments in the renewable energy sector and promote the adoption of renewable technologies by existing businesses such as hotels, factories, and residential properties. Additionally, a climate change policy focusing on flood mitigation has been implemented. This policy ensures that every local council considers flood risks before approving any development projects, prioritizing resilience against climate change impacts
